Irving Cliff

 

Irving Cliff is a park that overlooks Honesdale. It has magnificent views of the borough and the confluence of the Dyberry Creek and the Lackawaxen River. The park was named after Washington Irving, when he visited the region and fell in love with the cliffs overlooking the

borough. The park is only a few minutes outside of town. Just take Cliff Street north at the Route 6 intersection and go approximately 3/4's of a mile and turn left onto Gibbons Park Road. Read more about Irving Cliff in the History section of this website.




 

Stourbridge Rail Excursion

 

For a wonderful railroad ride that takes you back in history, take the Stourbridge Line along the historic Lackawaxen River on a 45 minute run from Honesdale to Hawley. There is also a 90 minute ride to the village of Lackawaxen. The Stourbridge Line is powered by the vintage

BL-2 Locomotive # 54 and is a ride the entire family will never forget!

Tanners Falls

Tanners Falls is in the Pennsylvania Gamelands along Dyberry Creek in Honesdale. At one time the area was called Dyberry Falls that was founded in 1830. In 1851 it was renamed Tanners Falls, when tanning was a big business in the area. It is a wonderful spot with fantastic photographic opportunities.

Directions: From Route 191 and Route 6 just north of the borough, take Route 191 north for 3.8 miles to SR 4009. Turn left and go .3 miles, then make a hard right turn and continue on SR 4009. Proceed up the narrow, twisting paved road through state gamelands #159 for 2.8 miles to a large road bridge where a gravel road (SR 4017) enters from the left. Turn left onto SR 4017, and drive .5 miles up the steep hill to a large parking area at a steel bridge. GPS coordinates: 41 degrees 39.698'N, 75 degrees 17.329'W

Wayne County Fair

 

The Wayne County Fair is one of the most popular events in Honesdale. It takes place every summer for 9 days starting on the first Friday each August. Their 150th anniversary will be forthcoming in the near future. For more information go to [WayneCountyFair.com] or call 570 253-5486.







Wayne County Historical Society

 

One of the wonderful places to visit in Honesdale is the Wayne County Historical Society at 810 Main Street in Honesdale. It is the home of the Stourbridge Lion, the first locomotive to run on commercial track in America.

The museum is the original office of the Delaware and Hudson Canal Company, the first million dollar corporation in America that helped jumpstart the Industrial Revolution in America.
